Create projects and drawings through applications with PlantExpressTools

This blog handles the new PlantExpressTools function PlantProjectCreate. PlantProjectCreate allows you to create AutoCAD Plant 3D projects and drawings through other applications (e.g. an MS Access application).

The first step requires setting up the configuration of PlantProjectCreate. You need a ptoject template, a template with the applicable project and drawing properties (hereinafter Template.xlsx). You also need to know where the ACAD.EXE is located and the drawing templates folder (DWT).

With those info you start PlantProjectCreate and configure the setup.

Next the application which later will start PlantProjectCreate must export the actual project data (XLS, XLSX, CSV, TXT) and then start PlantProjectCreate with the following command line arguments:

“C:\Program Files\CADSTUDIO\PlantToolsUtilities\PlantProjectCreate\PlantProjectCreate.exe”

/SetupFile “D:\Projects\auxalia-on-air\PlantProjectCreate 200116\PlantProjectCreate.xml” /ConfigName “Configuration 1”

/ExportFile “D:\Projects\auxalia-on-air\PlantProjectCreate 200116\Project Export Data.xlsx”

Last, PlantProjectCreate will start AutoCAD Plant 3D and creates the project and drawings. If PlantProjectCreate will be used on an existing project or drawings again, it works as an update function. All project and drawing properties will be updated and additional drawing will be created.
